How to play Carrom
Start Carrom by looking at the playing area and its controls. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Look at what changes after your first action. Check the rule that explains your first action. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.
Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.
A careful first round
Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Notice the feedback after each input.
Your goal
Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.
Step by step
- White starts; set striker aim and power.
- Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
- Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
- Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
- Finish your colour after a covered queen.
Controls
Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.
A useful example
Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.
Watch out for this
The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
