How to play Visual Memory

Visual Memory gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

Step by step

  1. Start a round and watch the highlighted cells.
  2. Wait until the board hides the pattern.
  3. Select the positions you remember; order does not matter.
  4. Complete the pattern to advance.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

A useful example

If the four corner squares were shown, select those four corners in any order. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

Unlike Sequence Memory, this game does not require the original order. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
